Pilots,
I strongly encourage everyone to join the FAA Wings Program for continuing pilot education. Earning FAA Wings program credit can also serve as your Flight Review.

Under Account Preferences – Other (https://www.faasafety.gov/Users/pub/preferences.aspx), link your CAP training to your Wings Account:

Check and Instructor Pilots,

You should be using EZwings.net, which is an incredibly easy way to award FAA Wings Credit for CAP checkrides!

If you have any questions, please reach out to our newest TX Wing Check pilot Skip Bayro (skipper.bayro@txwg.cap.gov) (congratulations!) and FAA Fast Team representative.

Group commanders – please forward those upgrading to MS and MOs and also have your Squadron Stan Eval Officer incorporate this material into their training programs.

We are expanding the TX Wing Stan Eval website, incorporating some great training materials.  For those who are beginning their Mission Training, check out this link:

https://txwg.cap.gov/about/directorates/do/dov/mission-training-resources

It collects indispensable training material, including:

  • MO, MS, and MP Training Links
  • Task Guides (SQTR)
  • Inflight Guide
  • Mission Forms (104, 104A, and 104B))
  • FM Radio training and manual
  • Becker training and manual

Soon, the webpage will also include training material for the Talon pod.

[TXWG Pilots] New Texas Wing Pilot Onboarding Checklist!!!

We have created a New Texas Wing Pilot Onboarding Checklist, which is posted on the Texas Wing Stan Eval Website (https://txwg.cap.gov/about/directorates/do/dov).

This will be a gamechanger for walking new pilots through step-by-step actions with links.

Thanks Daniel Manusis, Skip Bayro, and Tony Shaleesh for your help!

In the interest of streamlining operations, we are rescinding/canceling the TXWG/DO REQUALIFICATION & PILOT ONBOARDING REQUEST PROCESS form.  (Note: the Onboarding Checklist will be updated shortly.)

Squadrons remain empowered to construct training plans and mentor new pilots. Squadron leadership and Stan Eval are encouraged to leverage the following 2 documents:

New Pilot Experience Survey and Qualification Worksheet

Training Plan Worksheet

If a prospective new pilot requires more than 5 training flights (for example, 2 CAP intro training flights + 2 G1000 + 1 High Performance) before their planned Form 5, please discuss with TX Wing Stan Eval (DOV or DOVa) to evaluate sending them to a flight school.  Please note that a current Flight Review is no longer required.  That can be accomplished either during training or during a Form 5 Checkride with prior coordination with the Check Pilot.

[TXWG Pilots] Stan Eval Policy update: Multiple Abbreviated Form 5s with the same Check Pilot authorized

On Aug 16, 2024, at 12:49 PM, Lawrence Spinetta <lawrence.spinetta@txwg.cap.gov> wrote:

Stan Eval Policy update

Texas Wing pilots are authorized to take more than two consecutive Form 5s with the same CAP Check Pilot (CP) if completing an ABBREVIATED checkride.

Context

  • CAPR 70-1, paragraph 7.6.8 refers to any type of Form 5 (i.e., initial, annual, or abbreviated), and it requires approval to take more than 2 sequential Form 5s with the same CP.
  • The intent is for pilots to periodically fly with a new CP to have fresh eyes to evaluate skills and to provide fresh technique insights.
  • That goal remains satisfied even if completing multiple abbreviated checkrides with the same CP
    • Examples
    • Scenario 1 (Base Case): A pilot flies two annual checkrides with the same CP, then he must accomplish his next checkride with a different CP.  Accordingly, there is a two-year gap between flying with a new CP.
    • Scenario 2:  A pilot completes her initial (C172) checkride and, within the same year, flies an abbreviated (G1000) checkride and later another abbreviated (Orientation Pilot) checkride with the same CP. She will then take her next annual with a new CP.  Thus, the gap between flying with a new CP equals < 1 year.
      • Note: every checkride, regardless of whether it is an annual or abbreviated, resets your counter if it is flown with a new CP.
Sincerely,
Lt. Col. Lawrence Spinetta Texas Wing Chief of Standardization and Evaluation

TX Wing WMIRs Standardization and Guidance

(8/14/2024)

  1. Please make sure every block in WMIRs is completed except for the Tracking No., Mission Facility, and Debriefer, which are optional
    1. If you fill out the Debriefer section, then you can enter the IC, FRO, or your own CAP ID #
    2. Sortie objectives, sortie deliverables, and debrief sections are of particular interest to the Air Force
  2. Write “n/a” in blocks that do not apply to your sortie
  3. Per 70-2, please ensure all sortie data, to include actual costs, are entered into WMIRS within 72 hours of sortie completion
  4. Weather section can be completed by simply entering “VMC”
  5. Fuel Receipts
    1. Separate fuel receipts are required if you fly multiple sorties with different Mission Numbers (e.g., ES, Form 5, and Orientation)
    2. Do NOT write anything on the receipt (unless you are at a clinic and directed to by the IC for processing purposes)
    3. PDF preferred but can be a JPG
    4. Ensure the receipt is not folded and the scan is legible
  6. Double check ATD and ATA are completed and show a reasonable sortie duration
  7. FRO Release
    1. If you update a sortie after FRO release, verify that the flight is still released.  If not, secure another FRO release.
    2. If your flight was not electronically released, ensure your FRO completes your electronic flight release in WIMRS and upload a copy of your paper release (CAPF 70-2 for powered aircraft or CAPF 70-2G for gliders) into WMIRS (specifically to the mission file section) within 24 hours unless the National Operations Center (NOC) and TX Wing Operations are informed of extenuating circumstances.
